2. What data is collected
Data you provide
The site does not require registration, has no user accounts and no newsletter. If you email us, we use your details only to reply to you.
Values you enter in the site's tools (for example your electricity consumption in the CO₂ calculator) are used only to produce the calculation you request and are not linked to your identity.
Data recorded automatically
Like almost every website, the server hosting this site records technical details of each visit: IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser and device type. This information is used for security and to keep the site running properly.
The site also keeps a simple, anonymous view counter for each article. We do not currently use third-party analytics services (such as Google Analytics). If that changes, we will update this policy.
3. Cookies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. This site uses:
- Essential cookies: technical cookies set by the content management system (Joomla), for example for the session and your language choice. The site cannot work properly without them.
- Advertising cookies: Google cookies used by the Google AdSense service (see section 4).
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block all cookies, some features may not work properly.
4. Advertising (Google AdSense)
This site is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's ad settings.
- Learn more about how Google uses data when you use its partners' sites here, and in Google's Privacy Policy.
For visitors from the European Economic Area, personalised advertising cookies are used only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
5. Third-party content on tool pages
Some pages embed interactive charts or tools from third parties such as Tableau Public, Climate Watch, carbonfootprint.com and Elfsight. When you open these pages, your browser connects directly to their servers, which may receive your IP address and use their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
6. Legal basis
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): for the security and operation of the site and for essential cookies.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): for non-essential and advertising cookies.
- Responding to your request: when you contact us.
7. How long data is kept
Technical log files are kept for a limited period, as long as needed for security purposes. Emails are kept as long as needed to reply and complete the conversation. The lifetime of Google's cookies is set by Google.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access your data,
- have inaccurate data corrected,
- have your data erased (the "right to be forgotten"),
- restrict processing,
- object to processing,
- data portability,
- withdraw your consent at any time.
To exercise your rights, email us at
9. Children
This site is aimed at a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site's services or the law change. The date of the latest update is shown at the top of this page.
